About Casper
What is the Casper test?
Casper is an open-response situational judgment test administered by Acuity Insights. It explores how applicants approach interpersonal and professional situations. Programs use it alongside other admissions information.
Check your program’s admissions website and the requirements for your application cycle. Confirm the test type, language, dates and distribution deadlines with the program and Acuity Insights before booking.
The required language depends on the programs you are applying to and the available test reservations. Check their requirements rather than assuming that either language will be accepted. CasPro offers practice in both languages.
The current standard format has four video-response scenarios followed by seven typed-response scenarios. Each scenario has two questions. Some test types use a shorter format. Confirm the version of your booked test with Acuity Insights.
In the standard format, you have 3.5 minutes in total for both typed questions in a scenario. The two questions appear together. Check the official instructions for your booked test.
In the standard format, you have one minute to record each video answer. Practice giving a clear response within that limit without treating a rehearsed script as a substitute for your own reasoning.
Acuity Insights lists approximately 65 to 85 minutes for the standard test, including optional breaks. Shorter test variants exist. Consult your booking and official instructions for the applicable duration.
Start with Acuity Insights’ free preparation resources and the practice test in your Acuity Insights account. These are the official resources. CasPro is an independent, optional practice platform and does not provide official test questions.
Familiarize yourself with the official format and technical requirements first. For additional practice, try timed responses and review whether your reasoning is understandable and relevant to the question. CasPro practice is educational and does not guarantee a higher official score.
As a practice exercise, identify the people affected, acknowledge missing information, explain a reasonable action and say why you would take it. Adapt your response to the situation. This is CasPro practice guidance, not an official scoring formula.
Should I memorize answers?
Use practice to become comfortable expressing your own reasoning. A memorized answer may not address the situation you receive. Review the official preparation resources and respond to the actual question rather than trying to force every scenario into the same script.
What equipment should I check before video responses?
Check the official technical requirements and run Acuity Insights’ system check. Test your camera, microphone and connection in the location where you will take the test. A successful recording on CasPro does not replace the official system check.
Try recording a one-minute practice answer, then review whether you answered the question and explained your reasoning clearly. Notice your pace and unnecessary repetition. CasPro offers video practice, but the exercise is separate from the official assessment.
Scores and feedback
How are official Casper responses assessed?
Certified human raters assess official Casper responses. CasPro’s AI feedback is a separate practice tool. Its categories and scores should not be interpreted as Acuity Insights’ official scoring system.
An official quartile describes your relative performance compared with applicants in the relevant test cohort. It is not a pass or fail result. Programs decide how to use Casper results with the rest of your application.
Acuity Insights says quartiles usually become available four to five weeks after the test. You receive an email when yours is ready and can view it in your Acuity Insights account.
CasPro provides practice feedback on empathy, ethics, professionalism, communication and problem-solving. These are CasPro feedback dimensions. AI can make mistakes, so use the feedback to reflect on your response rather than as an official assessment or a score guarantee.
Does my CasPro practice quartile predict my official result?
No. CasPro practice comparisons use practice scores and other responses to the same practice question. The sample may be small and is different from the official test cohort. These comparisons cannot predict your official quartile.
